WHAT'S NEW


The S. L. S. A. Roar (Jun 27, 2009). The S. L. S. A. Roar newspaper published in Manassa, Colorado on February 24, 1922. Page two reads: "Mr. and Mrs. Will Jackson are the proud parents of a new baby boy." This is referring to the birth of Elbert Jackson on February 15th, 1922.

Elvera Jackson Rasmussen photographs and documents added (Nov 1, 2008). Added 49 photographs and 5 documents. Elvera (b. September 29, 1902) was the daughter of William and Mary Jackson. For more information see the Documents and Photographs pages.

William Jackson letters (Oct 4, 2008). Two letters from William Jackson (b. August 21, 1871) to his daughter, Elvera Jackson (b. September 29, 1902): August 24, 1924 and May 31, 1925. These letters were contributed by Josephine Jackson Jones.

Three Death Certificates (Jul 20, 2008). Added three death certificates: Elizabeth Kirkman Jackson, Samuel Jackson, Nephi Jackson. Thanks to KariAnn Jackson Christiansen. These certificates are also found in the Documents section.

Petition for Land Documents (Jun 16, 2007). When Mary Georgena Jackson (b. April 9, 1885) passed away she held land in her name. Since she did not have a will it was necessary for the family to file a petition for the land. An ad was taken out in the local newspaper indicating the families claim to the property. And William filed a verification document. Click here, here and here.

Zachariah Jaques update (Mar 18, 2007). Jeanette Hurst, daughter of Josephine Jackson Jones, has been doing some great work on Zachariah Jaques and provided me with two documents. Zachariah married Sarah Clewer and was the father of Hannah Maria who married Samuel Jackson. The first document is a journal of John Woodhouse who writes of Zachariah becoming sick in St. Louis, MO. The second document speaks of Zachariah accidentally killing someone and his sentence being deferred. She will be updating his history in the near future.

William Jackson letters (Jan 22, 2007). A collection of five letters written by William Jackson (b. August 21, 1871) to his wife Mary Georgena Jackson (b. April 9, 1885) while he was at various sheep camps in Colorado and New Mexico: January 5, 1902; April 6, 1902; June 3, 1902;. June 22, 1902; and July 13, 1904. These letters are in the possession of Jeanette Hurst.

Letter from Mary Jackson to her daughter, Louvina (Jan 6, 2007). I discovered this letter in a box of photographs I received from my parents. It was written from Mary Jackson to her daughter Louvina Jackson Smith on June 18, 1930, and was written shortly before Mary passed away on August 6, 1930. Click here.

Journal of Elvera Jackson Rasmussen (Dec 29, 2006). Here is a journal kept by Elvera Jackson Rasmussen, daughter of William and Mary Jackson. The first part of the journal talks about Mary Jackson and her passing, and the latter part deals with her brother, Melvin Samuel Jackson, who lived with Elvera and her husband for about six years after Mary passed. It's over ninety pages.

Obituary of Samuel Jackson, Sr. (Mar 2, 2006). This is the obituary of Samuel Jackson, Sr., son of Benjamin Jackson and Ann Grimshaw. It is entitled Cross the Desert in 1857, Cross the "Great Dived" in 1919. The source is unknown. Click here.
