Caterina Scorsone, The SyFy network (used to be the Sci-Fi network, but they changed it to sound more like “syphilis” for some reason) launched their new series Alice tonight, a modernization and adulteration of the children’s classic by Lewis Carroll. The cast includes veteran actors like Oscar Award-winner Kathy Bates but all the hubbub on the interwebs is centering around SyFy’s choice to play the title character Alice Hamilton.
Caterina Scorsone is a relatively unknown 28-year-old actress born in Toronto. She has starred in a number of television shows, most notably on the show Missing, originally titled 1-800-Missing. The show revolves around Caterina’s character Jess Mastriani, who is able to locate missing persons with visions. Her abilities are discovered by the F.B.I. who form a missing persons investigative unit around her.
Caterina’s Alice Hamilton is a strong “oyster” who stumbles into Wonderland chasing a stolen ring given to her by her lover Jack Chase. But, the “Wonderland” she finds isn’t a world of childish fantasy, but a dark, urban, devolved society full of tyranny, oppression and desperation. I won’t say any more so as to not spoil it for those who missed the first episode
