America's Next Top Model' All-Stars Recap: Lisa Wins, but with Angelea Controversy.America's Next Top Model All-Stars edition has been a season of firsts, even if it's cycle 17 of the Tyra Banks reality TV show. It's the first cycle to bring back all vet ANTM finalists. The first cycle to have music videos, an Extra correspondent prize, a trip to Greece, and a number of other challenges and photo shoots never seen before on the CW reality TV show.
Lisa D'Amato Photo by Todd MazerAnother first is that one of the final three America's Next Top Model All Star girls is disqualified, and it came with no explanation. After all the girls did their CoverGirl commercials and photo shoots (with everyone doing surprisingly well, even Angelea), shot their Vogue Italia spread (in case they won), and walked the watery runway, the judges had a bizarre announcement.
The final three was suddenly down to two. The girls had been transported from Crete to Los Angeles, despite every other finale doing the elimination right after the final ANTM runway walk. And Angelea was gone with little explanation, just that she revealed something to producers that disqualified her.
So what gives Tyra Banks? Some guess that Angelea, at some point, leaked something about the America's Next Top Model finale on her Facebook, but there's no proof of that anywhere on her page. And if a leak had been up on her page at some point, wouldn't somebody have seen it and spread the news?
It's hard to believe that such a leak existed to create this Angelea-propagated controversy. Rather, it must have had to do with something else. After all, after the girls swam down the runway, and then floated into the air and transformed into goddesses, Angelea broke down. Everything was over with except panel. So why the tears? Could it have been drugs? Some sort of guilt?
No one knows, because the only thing judges would say on the America's Next Top Model All Stars finale was that they wish Angelea the best and that she wouldn't be present at judging. And that's all that can be said about that for now.
The real focus of the show, or at least what should have been the real focus, was who won America's Next Top Model All Stars. Allison and Lisa stood in their beautiful Michael Cinco dresses awaiting the announcement. Both girls offered something completely different.
Allison's CoverGirl photo looked a bit vacant but still stunningly beautiful as always. There was something darker about Lisa's photo shoot, but she impressed the ANTM judges more with her striking gaze. But the commercial, that went to Allison, even if she needed to close her eyes because of the light. She felt more real, less forced -- which she's always been throughout America's Next Top Model, no matter what the cycle.
The runway was another example of opposites. Allison stunned in the water, not once coming up for breath until she'd completely crossed the pool. Lisa, on the other hand, got all turned around doing a flip and ended up on the wrong side. But on the runway Allison stumbled with the wind, whereas Lisa used the wind to her advantage, even with her long train of a Michael Cinco dress.
So who wins America's Next Top Model All Stars? Even though Allison has a legion of crazy, die-hard fans; a vastly better portfolio of work; love from photographers and guest judges, who were constantly inspired by her; a win during the Extra correspondent challenge (that Lisa famously failed), Allison doesn't walk away a winner.
Rather, that goes to the vivacious Lisa. Sure, she's got loads of personality and she may be able to rap, but she was not the best this season. And, frankly, in her photos, especially with CoverGril, she looked old.
But no matter. Allison will go on to do amazing things -- and apparently she wants to do art direction and painting now instead? So maybe the right girl, Lisa, won America's Next Top Model All Stars after all -- even if the Web thinks Angelea was the real winner and the whole ending was reshot.
