Ladies vs Ricky Bahl Movie Review: A serial conman who woes women and leave them with a lighter bank balance gets well almost conned until love cons err comes between them. Well, this is the one-liner of Yash Raj production’s Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl that brings together again the hit Band Baaja Baaraat combination of Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma and director Maneesh Sharma.
A conman gets conned was brilliantly scripted in Khosla Ka Ghosla in a hilarious way. Maneesh Sharma tries to emulate the same formula with love thrown in and by making the conman the hero. So as per mainstream Bollywood’s unwritten rules since the hero is the conman one has to make sure he is not entirely at the receiving end and then all is fair in love and con at the end. Now I hope you get the drift of the movie.
The movie starts predictably but picks the pace thanks to Ranveer Singh’s screen presence. This guy does have a charisma to woe the young girls and women in the audience. I could hear college girls whistle and scream when he comes bare-chested. To add to the momentum is Parineeti Chopra (for those who is interested in Bollywood tidbits, Parineeti is Priyanka Chopra’s cousin sister) as a daughter of a rich businessman completely bowled by Ricky and making into his conned list. She is quiet natural on-screen as a naïve, rich Delhi girl lost in love. Enter Anushka as Ishika just before interval on a mission to con the master con. Next half n hour or so post interval the movie is enjoyable though predictable. Just when we sit and enjoy the scheming of things by the girl gang, cupid strikes and with that the archaic formula seeps in to bore you to a clichéd climax.
