Cameron White and Shikhar Dhawan got together to add 68 runs for the second wicket to drive Decccan Chargers out of early jolt. Dhawan was run out after adding quick 36 off 29 balls. He was soon followed by Sankkara. He was dismissed by Raina at one run.

After electing to bat on their home ground, Chennai suffered first setback in the third over. Murli Vijay was caught at boundary line after adding 14 runs to the score card. He was dismissed by Pratap Singh.

F du Plessis and Raina got together to add quick 54 off just 34 balls and steer the Chennai side out of early jolt. Both of them built a strong 64 runs partnership for the second wicket before Raina was scalped by Amit Mishra at the score of  32 off 24 balls. 

Chennai suffered another blow in as du Plessis, who was caught by Shikhar Dhawan at the score of 42 off 35 balls.

Albie Morkel was next to depart after du Plessis. He was dismissed by Jhunjhunwala at 13 off 9 deliveries. On the other end skipper MS Dhoni was intact on the crease and adding runs for the team.
