Singapore’s most anticipated running event, the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) 2012 returns for another year and registration has officially started on Friday, 6 July 2012, at Raffles Place Park.
Acting Minister for Community Development Youth and Sports, Mr Chan Chun Sing, was there to officiate the event as the guest-of-honour. Mr Richard Seow, Chairman, Singapore Sports Council (SSC) and Chief Executive Officer, Singapore, Standard Chartered Bank joined him.
The first 1,000 SCMS 2012 registrants at the Raffles Green was given a limited edition goodie bag as well as special race privileges from 100plus and BMW. Some of the registrant were already in the queue well before the launch of the event, there were a few who had been in the queue since last night, waiting eagerly to register and take part in the highly anticipated race that will be held on 2nd December 2012.
That’s not all the first 1,000 registrant were also entitled to priority sign ups and a 50% discount for future running clinics, free transportation on race day from designated pick up points to the race village, and there will also be a dedicated counter for them at the Race Entry Pack Collection (REPC).
But these was not the only reason why some of them were already at queuing up here since yesterday, registrants from the queue at Raffles Place Park will also stand a chance to win attractive prizes as SEIKO Men’s watches worth SGD$645 each, and Pure Fitness memberships courtesy of the event’s sponsors.
The launch also introduce the public to the different race category available and also highlighted the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2012 ambassadors – Ida Ang, Sanya Pandit, Sky Khoo, Adam Onearmrunner, Marc Davies and Ziggy Mangahas each running in a different category.
Asics,is the co-Sponsor of the event, introduced the official shoe of SCMS 2012 – the Asics Gel DS Trainer 17.
