New Years Resolution Worksheet Kids, Have always been fond of New Year’s Resolutions. I love the feeling of a blank slate each year, and each month with the turn of the calendar page. I have little lists all over the house with yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily goals. This past year didn’t turn out the way I imagined, but I learned a lot about what to do when personal goals need to take a back seat. This was/is a valuable lesson, and something I am glad I experienced, even though I wasn’t so happy at the time. This year, 2009, started with a few ideas: I was going to keep it simple and only resolved to stop biting my nails when I was nervous, complete Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred, and start a garden gnome collection. I am happy to report that I did stop biting my nails and I am getting used to typing with nails that reach past my fingertips. I rewarded myself a few times with professional manicures, but prefer to tend to them on my own. I was able to get 23 days in a row of the 30 Day Shred under my belt before I twisted my knee and needed to take a few weeks off of exercise. When I happily learned that one of my (unannounced) goals worked and we were pregnant with baby #3, all exercising took a back seat to morning sickness. I have accumulated four garden gnomes over the past year and each one makes me smile. I am hoping the word continues to spread amongst my family members and I get a few more gifts this Holiday Season.
I was able to finish writing and editing ‘Make It Fast, Cook It Slow: The Big Book Of Everyday Slow Cooking’, my first cookbook based on my 2008 New Year’s Resolution to use my slow cooker every day. I am quite pleased with the way that it turned out and am proud of this accomplishment.
I was not able to complete my November goal of National Novel Writing Month. I got about nine days into the project, then stopped. I am still a bit annoyed at myself, because I hate giving up, but I did feel a huge sense of relief once I decided to let this one go. Being pregnant and constantly tired was taking its’ toll and the kids hated having me on the computer for so much of the day. I was neglecting chores and other responsibilities and it just wasn’t a good fit at the time. I was able to achieve a nice outline and character development and hope to pick this back up when the opportunity arises.
My day-to-day ‘To Do Lists’ and goals were mostly discarded this year and it has been a hard lesson for me to let go and just do the bare necessities to get through the day. I like keeping busy, and I like jamming my days with lots of activity and accomplishments, but found that I really did need to slow down and listen to my body more this pregnancy than I did with my other two. If I was able to answer email, empty the dishwasher, and start a slow-cooker, it was a good day, whereas in previous years that was about an hour or two’s worth of work.
I am greatly looking forward to my first cup of strong coffee after this baby is born!
The coming year, 2010, will be rung in with friends and family, and I am looking forward to a New Year of getting to know our new little one and counting our blessings. I do have a new writing project in the works that is due in April, so the first quarter will be busy, but a good busy – I look forward to the productivity.
At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is family, and although crossing items off a list is tremendously satisfying, taking the time to put work aside to cuddle on the couch is what soothes the soul and what makes a person whole.
Have a fantastic 2010. It is going to be wonderful, I can tell.
- Happy 2010! -
