1 Duke vs. 4 Purdue
Line: Duke -8
Ken Pom predicts: Duke, 68-61.
Edge, Duke: Primarily, depth and size. JaJuan Johnson will have to battle Lance Thomas, Brian Zoubek and the Plumlee Brothers.
Edge, Purdue: We spent the night looking for one. No luck. Best we could come up with was that Purdue plays very good defense (Siena shot 32 percent, Texas A&M 35 percent) and could ugly-the-game-up just enough to keep it close.
Purdue’s Problem: Its best defensive player is Chris Kramer. Do you put him on Jon Scheyer or Kyle Singler? The guess here is Singler, with Keaton Grant sticking to the slumping Scheyer (his legs are gone – he was 1-for-11 against Cal).
Stat: According to this, Duke has a 31 percent chance of winning the title, which is considerably better than Kentucky (13) and Syracuse (11). Weep now, people – they add Seth Curry and elite recruit Kyrie Irving next year. If Kyle Singler stays, you’re looking at a Top 5 team next year.
