Kennedy Space Center, It was rock, roll and launch as Shuttle Discovery lifted off pad 39-A at the Kennedy Space Center in Brevard County in the pre – dawn darkness Monday morning.
Residents along the Space Coast got an awakening they hadn’t received in a long time to shake them out of bed.
The clear weather and the the lack of ground fog allowed Discovery to get off the pad on time at 6:21 AM as the orbiter began it’s chase to the high – flying International Space Station.
The residual thunder of the two solid rocket boosters and Discovery’s three main engines, with a slight easterly wind, allowed the sound to roll across the Halifax Area.
